Experience a Vermont Christmas
We're a small family owned tree farm in Middlebury, Vermont. We've been growing Christmas trees for over 40 years. In addition to Christmas trees, wreaths and garlands, we produce maple syrup, honey, shropshire sheep, and hay. We believe that farming should improve the local environment through smart farming choices. Our farm is solar-powered.

Sold out of trees until 12/14, when we will restock a small number of pre-cut trees

In 2023, our farm faced one of the toughest challenges we’ve ever seen when severe flooding drowned nearly half of our Christmas trees. It was a heartbreaking loss, but it also reaffirmed why we care so deeply about sustainable, resilient farming.
This year, our choose-and-cut fields will need some time to recover as we rebuild our stock for future seasons. We had to close our choose-and-cut trees earlier than we hoped, but we still have beautiful wreaths, centerpieces, gifts, and holiday decorations available—and we’re so grateful for your continued support.
Thank you for standing by us through these changes. Together, we’re helping ensure that this farm will keep growing family traditions for generations to come.
What We Grow
CHRISTMAS TREES
On our Vermont Christmas tree farm, we sell cut-your-own and pre-cut Christmas trees. Our 2024 tree types are balsam fir, canaan fir, balsam/fraser fir crosses, white pine, white spruce, and a small number of unusual varieties like concolor fir. We make all of our wreaths, garlands, and other greeneries on our farm. Get your Christmas tree and have a wonderful Christmas with Werner Tree Farm.

MAPLE SYRUP
Traditional production combined with modern efficiency produces a rich flavored syrup that burns less wood to make. We taste test every batch to make sure it meets our high standards. It's a rough job, but someone's got to do it. You can find our maple syrup at the Middlebury Natural Foods Co-op, as well as for sale on the farm.

HONEY
Our northern honeybee queens produce a pleasant, mild-flavored wildflower honey. We manage our hives using only organic-approved treatments and strategies for disease and mite control. Our Vermont honey is lightly strained and unheated. We have raw liquid honey, raw creamed honey, and honeycomb available in our shop.

HAY
We make high quality horse and sheep hay in forty pound square bales.

SHROPSHIRE SHEEP
Our sheep rotate through different sections of the Christmas trees, grazing out weeds and grass. They come from Groverman genetics. Come shop our farm-raised lamb meat, shropshire yarn and roving, and a variety of felted ornaments and products.

Just a wonderful family operation full of smiles. Been heading there for twenty years and nobody compares. Period.

When I was younger, we always went to Werner's for our tree. Now that I'm older and have my own family, we have continued the tradition and bring our girls each year. The train, hot chocolate and warm atmosphere are hard to beat!

We've gotten our trees here for years, not to mention wreaths and kissing balls, all handmade at the farm. Everyone is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable -- an unbeatable combination!
The Future Is Green - Sustainable Agriculture
There are plenty of buzzwords out there for green agriculture. You’ve probably heard some of these terms before: regenerative agriculture, sustainable farming, permaculture, holistic farming, silvopasture, organic farming—there are lots of them. While they may have different methods of getting there, we found these terms all point to the same concept.

Farming can be good for the environment.

Most of these green farming philosophies weren't created with tree farms in mind (no till? That's easy for a tree farm!) What makes the most sense to us is taking bits and pieces that are a good fit for our farm and land. For example, we added Shropshire sheep to our farm as an organic, low impact method of weed and grass control. In 2021 we added solar panels on the Christmas Shop and barn roofs to become completely solar-powered.

We know our practices aren't perfect. Great! That means we have room to grow. Have a great idea? Please send it to us!
